Blog spotting

How to apply eyeliner:

Category :Reflections on Behavioural Health

A very long reflection

This is the last day of Introduction of Behavioural Health, after three sections of presentations, we need to submit the paper on 19/12. I have not started a word yet!!!

Many classmates presented their intervention model in BMS approach, which is Body-Mind-Spirit Approach. It sounds so academic, in fact it is only some very user-friendly easy tacts to help people treating themselves with inspiring pictures/music/literature and other simple physical and breathing exercises.

At the beginning, I have no idea of what did the professor try to tell us or teach us. We did some breathing exercises, we did lai-qi which I have demonstrated with colleagues as well, then we watched some videos about helping elderly in their daily lives, then a sex expert, ( I forgot her proper title) shared her knowledge of conducting sex therapy with her vivid and interesting presenting style and teaching aids. This lecture is followed by another expert who is a small lady to teach us about child abuse. Later on, we went to a rehabilitation centre to experience my first hydrotherapy which turned out extremely comfortable and effective! Last three sections come to our presentation.

I have some thoughts to share. Classmates gave a good job on presenting what they knew or familiar with, such as alcoholism, depressions, bereavement, PMS...etc. Although most of them jsut pinpoint the characteristics of the "illnesses", I learnt more than my job, from a company named itself  "professional psychological institute". I review my assignment in my mind, I wonder what should I do to make it look better? Professor and tutor have given me valuable guidelines, yet it is only me to search more journals, theories to support my intervention and to have a more and deeper reflections on my subject to learn, it is Bereavement.

Regarding to reflection, I have learnt the importance and the benefits of meditation. I am not really into meditation before I started this program. I thought it is something very distant to me and I will never be able to sit down, concentrate, be quiet and still then meditate. Yet, I started to think about to have a short period of time, even it is only 5 minutes in the morning, before I started the first thing of the day, to meditate. Meditation is in fact an exercise to practise mindfulness (活在當下), other than meditation, I found chanting a mantra also helps me practising mindfulness.

At the beginning of the day, it is already 8am and I am still in bed usually. I go out the door @830 then reach bus stop @ KCR station @ nearly 840 with empty stomach. When i arrive @ NP, it is usually 910 or later, then I rush to MacDonald's for fastfood with transfat breakfast. If I am in a good mood which means I'd apply some makeup and please do add 10 or 15 more minutes of time. Colleagues are so busy typing keyboards without making any sound. No one talks or eats. Everyone sits in there seats firmly and looks at the computer in front of them with a numb face......I donlt really like this kind of living.

A classmate of mine has made a short movie ( I do not have her consent of posting her homework and therefore I put a link here for your interest) about health promotion, sthg like that. Her passion of making her homework looks good moves me a lot. Why can't I do something like that? I know I can if I want to, how come I allow myself to submit the homework with current quality? It reminds me I have forgot how to live...

Thank you for reading to here! I wonder how many of you able to finish this? If you are one of the  persistent readers, please leave a comment at the box on the left hand side, no presents will be given, at least let me know you are good enough to me! ^^ Thank you!343

I love Daft Punk

This famous group comes from France which produce loooots of music that some artists used them as music samples in their songs...you might have heard from other songs. For those who knows me well should know that I am not into dance music very much because of the "inhuman" touch. I thought so-called dance music is something too "machinery". Though music nowadays are making thru electronic machines, you might need a guitar, a violin or piano or drums that need someone sits there and play. For dance music, it is something you totally rely on machines to drive people crazy.

<--- click this for more info

It has entirely changed my mind after I watched this video.
Around the world

It is soooooooo crazy!!! I love it!

It was made approximately 10 years ago. I did not know dance music can be such meaningful. A group of human beings walking like robots, repeating themselves cycles after cycles. The music and the visuals are perfectly matched. It has drawn my attention to them since then. Later on, I found almost all their MVs mainly made with animated clips such as 銀河鐵路999, 千年女王 or appearances of them with robot masks. I don't know why do they do that but interests me.

I have bought two of their albums. Though I did not dig further for more meaningful stuff, the beats and rhythm amuses me enough. It seems that there is not much popularity of them in HK, however I heard some pop music nowadays are actually using some of their works as sample. I know they have made a huge influences on the music scene, but did not how deep it is. It has aroused my interest to get knowing them more.

Some of the people are keen enough to do the comparison of Kayne West with Daft Punk, listen

Below are some of their famous works.
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (funny name, 397)

Matrix!!!!

One more time

Da Funk, Madonna, the music goddess has used this as sample as well

This is another song I love quite much, Something about Us

Hello!

PUTUMAYO 呢個label係專做d world music.

仲有,本人認為呢個係star of the day﹕艾拂腰!

Larry and Lucy Lucy Southworth, Ph.D.
this is the 才女
Lucy Southworth isn't just Google founder Larry Page's fiancée. Since 2003, she's been a student at Stanford's Biomedical Informatics program, and it looks like she'll have more to celebrate in Necker Island than just her upcoming wedding.

A tipster tells us: Lucy Southworth will succeed where Larry and Sergey cannot. She just passed her oral exam for her doctorate last week. So at least there will be one doctor in the family. Page and Brin, of course, dropped out of their Ph.D. programs to start this thing called Google. Heard of it? But don't call Lucy "Dr. Southworth" quite yet. Stanford confers diplomas on a quarterly basis, and, as far as the university registrar's office is concerned, she's still listed as a student

Colin Murray fun video

Heard that people cannot read my posts until scrolling to the very bottom of the page, I wonder if it is the size of the clips
leads to this problem. I will try to change the format a little bit for your convenience.

Sgt Podge is collected between 0800 and 0815 GMT every day

Podge's daily ride
A cat is baffling his owner by wandering off at night before expecting to be collected by car every morning at exactly the same time and place.

Sgt Podge, a Norwegian Forest Cat, disappears from his owner's home in Talbot Woods, Bournemouth, every night.

The next morning, the 12-year-old cat can always be found in exactly the same place, on a pavement about one and a half miles (2.4km) away.

His owner, Liz Bullard, takes her son to school before collecting Sgt Podge.

She said the routine began earlier this year, when Sgt Podge disappeared one day.

Ms Bullard rang the RSPCA and began telephoning her neighbours to see if anyone had seen him.

An elderly woman who lived about one and a half miles away called back to say she had found a cat matching Sgt Podge's description.

Ms Bullard collected him but within days he vanished again. She rang the elderly woman to find Sgt Podge was back outside her home.

Owner Liz Bullard thinks Sgt Podge crosses a golf course every night

She said a routine has now become established, where each morning she takes her son to school before driving to collect Sgt Podge from the pavement between 0800 and 0815 GMT.

It is thought Sgt Podge walks across Meyrick Park Golf Course every night to reach his destination.

Ms Bullard said: "If it's raining he may be in the bush but he comes running if I clap my hands."

All she has to do is open the car passenger door from the inside for Sgt Podge to jump in.

Wandering the streets Ms Bullard also makes the trip at weekends and during school holidays - when her son is having a lie in.

She does not know why, after 12 years, Sgt Podge has begun the routine but explained that another woman who lived nearby used to feed him sardines, and that he may be on the look-out for more treats.

"As long as you know where they are you don't mind as a cat owner," Ms Bullard said.

"I know where to collect him - as long as he's not wandering the streets."

Back at home, Sgt Podge has breakfast before going to sleep by a warm radiator.

Music 'hidden' in Last Supper art

The painting's loaves of bread allegedly correspond to notes

A computer technician has claimed to have cracked a real Da Vinci code, by finding musical notes encoded in the masterpiece The Last Supper.

Leonardo Da Vinci left clues to a 40-second musical composition in his painting, Giovanni Maria Pala said.

Each loaf of bread in the picture represents a note, he said, which combine to sound "like a requiem".

Alessandro Vezzosi, director of Tuscany's Da Vinci museum, said the theory was "plausible".

The 15th century painting depicts Jesus' last meal with the 12 Apostles before his arrest and crucifixion.

'Emphasises passion' Mr Pala found that by drawing the five lines of a musical staff across the painting, the loaves of bread on the table and the hands of Jesus and the Apostles could each represent a musical note.

The notes make sense musically when the resulting score is read from right to left, following Da Vinci's own writing style, Mr Pala said in his book La Musica Celata (The Hidden Music).

The result is a 40-second "hymn to God" which Mr Pala described as "like a soundtrack that emphasises the passion of Jesus".

Mr Vezzosi, director of the Museo Ideale in the painter's home town Vinci, said that while Da Vinci was noted for his paintings, sculptures and inventions, he was also a musician.

"There's always a risk of seeing something that is not there, but it's certain that the spaces (in the painting) are divided harmonically," he said.

"Where you have harmonic proportions, you can find music."

The stars of the Harry Potter films have been giving their reaction to JK Rowling's revelation last month that the one of her characters, Hogwarts school headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is gay.

"I thought it was hilarious," said Daniel Radcliffe, who has played the lead role in all five Harry Potter films.

He said actor Michael Gambon, who has played Dumbledore since the third film, had been "really camping it up for the last three weeks ever since he found out".

Rowling announced that Dumbledore was gay to a packed house in New York's Carnegie Hall as part of her US book tour in October.

Radcliffe told BBC News: "JK Rowling is an incredibly intelligent woman. She can't have thought for a moment that that would go down well in the Bible Belt of America, but she put it brilliantly herself: 'He's my character - I can do what I want with him.' Which I think is fair enough."

Dumbledore is Harry Potter's mentor in the series
David Yates, who directed the fifth Harry Potter film - Order of the Phoenix - said he was told in September by JK Rowling during a read-through for the next film on the set of the Great Hall at Hogwarts.

"Jo leaned over to me and said: 'You know Dumbledore's gay don't you, David?' And I thought 'Wow that's pretty cool'."

Yates, who was speaking at the press launch of the Phoenix DVD, added: "He's a wonderful character, Dumbledore - graceful, wise, powerful, quirky, terrific sense of humour, loves knitting. There's a jumble of things in there and his sexuality is just another thing."

Filming on the sixth film in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, began in September, with Yates again at the helm. But he said not to expect any changes to the way Dumbledore is portrayed on film.

"Michael Gambon hasn't changed his approach. A person's sexuality is just one part of who they are, and so it hasn't really shifted where we're taking him."

Producer David Barron confirmed that Dumbledore would remain "the character Michael Gambon has already established".

Evanna Lynch beat 15,000 hopefuls to land the part of Luna Lovegood. But he added: "Michael's camped it up a bit off-camera, he's just been amused by it."

Emma Watson, who plays Harry's friend Hermione Granger, said: "It never really occurred to me before, but now JK Rowling's said that he's gay it sort of makes sense."

She added: "I think what surprised everyone was the amount of media attention it's received. I think it's nice that the story has ended but there are still things that people don't know."

Evanna Lynch, who plays the part of eccentric student Luna Lovegood, said she had always thought that a younger Dumbledore would have made an ideal partner for Luna.

"If only Dumbledore was a 100 years younger they would be perfect, and I put that to JK Rowling," she said.

"But as we know now, that's never going to happen."

What Is Musical Appreciation?

a public lecture by Jerrold Levinson
Distinguished University Professor of Philosophy, University of Maryland

6:00 pm, Tuesday, 20 November 2007
Rayson Huang Theatre, HKU
All Welcome

This talk concerns the nature of a practiced listener's involvement with, and
understanding of, classical instrumental music. Professor Levinson will
primarily focus on a debate between Peter Kivy and himself regarding the
relative importance of a conscious awareness of large-scale (or
architectonic) form to the appreciation of such music. The view Levinson
defends, labeled 'concatenationism,' holds that the importance of an explicit
grasp of large-scale form is, while not negligible, decidedly secondary,
overshadowed by that of a grasp of small-scale, moment-to-moment
musical connectedness, while the view defended by Kivy, labeled
'architectonicism,' accords to an explicit grasp of large-scale musical form
an importance of the first order.

Jerrold Levinson's main philosophical interest is aesthetics, with strong
secondary interests in metaphysics, ethics, and philosophy of the mind.
Among the arts, he is particularly concerned with philosophical problems
arising in connection with music, film, and literature. Levinson has written
extensively on the definition of art, expression in music, emotional
response to art, the nature of literary interpretation, and the ontology of
artworks. Topics of recent interest include intrinsic value, humor theory,
sexual morality, vocal jazz improvisation, and the varieties of visual
beauty. Levinson held a research fellowship from the National Endowment
for the Humanities in 1980, was co-director of an NEH Summer Institute in
1991 and director of another such Institute in 2002.

Amazing Grace 2

Hello all!
It is time posting favourite clips here again. first of all, I love youtube and the people who upload the materials. It is a great aid helping me to express my thought with a more vivid and interesting way :) Yeah~~

OK, this clip lasts 11 minutes long. I can jog down the first few lines which is said by the actress at the beginning,

"It seems to me that there's a very bad taste in your mouth, spit it out, you don't constantly swallow it back."

She's trying to encourage the actor to get back to his course of fighting for the abolition of slave trade. However, I think these few sentences can be applied to my own life experiences, as well.

I remember the first few days working here, I knew there's something wrong. After working for longer days, I am more convinced that something cannot be changed. However, I choose to stay for reasons.

I thought I can sort of "fight against" the bad things which happened on other people whose leaving here either with anger or sadness or both. Of course, I did not fight, I am too tired to fight and OK-smart enough to know not to fight at certain times. I swallow the bad taste bit by bit, just like the others, try my best to adapt the environment and working out the best at my terms.

The bad thing about swallow bad taste is not only makes you with a bad mouth, which is I am suffering right now, it hurts your heart and make you a miserable person! You thought the bad taste will be gone itself someday, unfortunately, it won't.

Spit it out!

Ogranic Producs

I have watched a program about organic lifestyle. There are lots of things around us make us sick because of their toxic components.

I wonder why do many women today got cancer so easily? We heard many cases whose friends or parents got different kinds cancer, I am so sorry for them and wonder if we can do anything to prevent it.  I wonder if our cosmestic products could be one of the reasons make us sick?

We apply our favourite make up onto our faces everyday, however, have we really thought about what things we are putting on indee? We do not eat plastic or drink iodine because we know that is harmful to us. Why don't we also think about our skin? Skin is the largest organ in human beings. It is the same as we eat toxic food or drinks. It is only small amount we use daily though, it become big issue if we use them days after days. Some might suggest not to use any make up at all. Is it a good way to prevent cancer or other illnesses? It is inevitable nowadays since many things are composed of chemical materials.

I am more concerned of cosmestic and skincare products, after watching the program, it has introduced organic products are one of the solutions.

After such long story and thank you for your hard effort to finish it, all I want to say is that I have bought a few things at Herbal Bliss, an organic skincare shop owned by one of the pioneers of organic movement in HK, Ophelia Chan.

Herbal Bliss

The Report 295
There is no dramatic effect such as radiant, whitening or moisturising after using the products. However, I feel lighter and less burden compare with using normal products. The blush is quite long lasting, very easy to use. Hydrating Plant Gel Base is highly recommended318. It is so moisturing without itchy feeling and dryness. It is not oily but really feel like drinking water with your skin.

Collagen Defense is also highly recommended343. For normal sunscreen, you feel like there is a sheer of substances on your face right after applying the product. But this one is not, it looks very normal, either shiny face nor white face. I do not have to worry about the toxic chemical products. I am very happy to use them.

Personality test results from FACEBOOK

Temperament: Flexible
Nothing seems to bother you - you sail through life crisis free. It's not that your life doesn't have its ups and downs, it's just that you handle everything without unnecessary drama and antics. You approach each day fresh, not worrying about yesterday or tomorrow. You are confident that you can handle anything that comes your way and experience has shown that you are absolutely right about this.

Interests: Simple
You are continually pursuing a simpler and less complicated life - you don't allow yourself to fall victim to all of the "should do's" that society continually bombards you with. You are thoughtful about your life choices and think in terms of yourself, others and the world in which we live. You have a great sense that we are part of something much bigger and we must be good to others, if we want others and the world to be good to us.

Amusement: Thoughtful
You are easily stressed out and overwhelmed - you need to take care of yourself first and foremost. Because you tend to be self reflective, you know your limits quite well and must remember to not exceed those limits. When you overwhelm your life with obligations and responsibilities, you tend to shut down and go into yourself even further. Take some time to find your serenity and kick back your feet.
Passion: Physical
You are a cuddle bug - from a warm hug shared with your best friend to steamy sex with your partner, you enjoy every bit of human contact that you can get. You demonstrate your love for others most fluidly through physical one-on-one contact and you feel the most loved when you are being touched. You feel disconnected when you are physically isolated from others. You're a people person and a lover of all things human.
